Richard “Ricky” Alexander Beatty Jr., 46, formerly of Hazard, Kentucky, passed away after a brief illness, leaving a legacy of faith, family, and love. Born on January 4, 1980, to Anita Benning Beatty and the late Rev. Richard Alexander Beatty Sr., He accepted Christ at the age of twelve and was baptized at Consolidated Baptist Church, where he remained a member throughout life until his relocation to Louisville, KY. He was a dedicated employee of Amazon, where he worked for the last 8 years. His career at Amazon was a source of great pride and he valued teamwork and friendships.
Ricky was a standout athlete and a local legend on the football field. He held the distinct honor of scoring the very first touchdown in the history of Perry County Central High School. Beyond his athletic achievements, Ricky was a man of immense heart who made every friend feel like family and every stranger feel like a friend. Ricky was also known for his sharp and curious mind. He was a lifelong learner who studied a wide range of subjects and possessed a wealth of information on many topics. Whether it was a deep dive into a new interest or a bit of trivia, Ricky seemed to know a little bit about everything, and he loved sharing that knowledge with those around him.
Above all else, Ricky was a family man. His greatest pride and joy was his only child, Saniya Beatty. He was a devoted father who ensured she always knew she was loved. Ricky also shared an incredibly close bond with his mother, Anita. He was a devoted son who looked out for her with the same protective and caring spirit he showed his entire family. He was more than a big brother, he was a protector, a teacher and a friend. From childhood adventures to life’s biggest milestones he always stood by with steady guidance and quiet wisdom and courage.
He was a cornerstone in the lives of his nieces and nephew- becoming a Musical Theatre and Cheer Uncle. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Amazon” to Gabby and Grace. Whether he was sharing insight or simply lending a helping hand, Ricky’s devotion to his family was second to none. He had a rare gift for making every person feel like they were the most important person in the room.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Richard Alexander Beatty Sr., and his grandparents, Emma Combs Benning and Joseph Benning Jr. and Mary Lucille and Marzell Beatty and a host of aunts and uncles.
His memory will be cherished by his daughter, Saniya Beatty; his mother, Anita Beatty; one brother, Jonathan Beatty; and his sisters, Jacqueline Johnson (John Sr.) and Diane Corsey (Gilbert); his nieces and nephew, Jasmine, John Jr. and Julianna Johnson, Gabrielle and Grace Corsey. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.
